Explore the Foothills

With a network of more than 130 miles of trails, there is plenty to do for hikers, mountain bikers, bird-watchers, river enthusiasts, and bird-watchers. Nestled along the base of the Boise Mountain Range, there are many attractions worth seeing such as the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center where you can learn about the high desert environment rich in wildflowers, unique plants, and wildlife.

Boise River Greenbelt

The Greenbelt is a twenty-five mile trail used by commuters heading to work downtown, walkers getting a little exercise, runners increasing their heart-rate, and students heading to Boise State University. Pathways surrounded by trees, interesting shops, many parks, and great restaurants make this an ideal destination for a day outing of fun and adventure. For out of town visitors, there are hotels nearby, and a few even offer free bikes for guests to cruise around on.

Snake River Wine Country

A short southwestern drive from downtown drops you into wine country. Also known as the American Viticultural Area, the soil and micro-climates are perfect for the many vineyards in the area that are quickly becoming known for their unique wines. Many of the wineries offer free tastings while a few others charge a nominal five dollars for tasting that can be applied toward your favorite bottle.
